Last night we were in the audience to enjoy John Grant's show at the Mandela Hall in Belfast. We've been fans of John for some time, but this was our first time seeing him live, and he did not disappoint. John is one of the most inspired songwriters around, his music is raw, honest and compelling. He was joined on stage by Conor O'Brien of Villagers for several songs, and what a pleasure it was to hear two such special voices together. On stage he and his band translate and elevate his songs incredibly and we left the venue with our bones shaken by some savage bass lines and our hearts moved by a gifted, humble and charismatic man.
Thank you John and band, thank you Conor, and big, big thanks to all at Open House Festival for continuing to bring only the best music to this city.
(Also, you've got to check out Dave McClelland's astonishing photos from the previous night's show in Dublin)
